A: mild edema, defined as the presence of cystoid spaces that cause little to no deformation of the foveal contour; B: moderate edema, with the presence of cystoid spaces that cause either flattening or a slight upward bulging of the fovea and deformation of the foveal pit; C: severe edema, with the presence of cystoid spaces that cause severe upward bulging of the foveal contour
